West African Bishops
At the end of their October 5-12 Plenary Assembly in Freetown, Sierra Leone, the Association of the Episcopal Conferences of Anglophone West Africa (AECAWA) called for increased dialogue between Catholics and Muslims: "We want to open new doors in dialogue because we believe that this is the only way that we can truly cultivate respect for each other and together stand up for human dignity and peace." The bishops said more dialogue between the two groups would help bring about peace in West Africa. The communiqué was released just before world Muslim leaders sent a letter to all Christian leaders expressing the commonality between the two religions and calling for more dialogue and peace between Christianity and Islam.
